Watch TV this Saturday night

Deepak Chopra, the popular New Age author, and Greg Koukl, an apologist from Stand to Reason, are going to argue for an hour on the TV show, Faith Under Fire, this Saturday, April 30, on Pax TV at 9:00 PM central time. It promises to be good. That's why I thought I'd mention it. If you're like me, and you don't have cable, find a friend who has cable and have them record it or go watch it at their house.

I saw that on the website you linked to yesterday. I'm definitely going to catch it. One of my co-workers is a huge Deepak Chopra follower, so it'll provide interesting discussion, I'm sure.

My husband and I almost decided to go without cable when we moved into our house but we figured, no, we'd miss watching Penguins' hockey too much. You can see how well that's paying off this year. Now we're paying for something we rarely use.

Kelly, you ought to get your coworker to watch it.

My first real exposure to New Age stuff was from a Unitarian Universalist. I was arguing with him about the nature of truth--whether it's relative or not--and he recommended I read Neale Donald Walsch's book, Conversations With God. Another UU from his church let me borrow the book. That was one of the most irrational crazy books I've ever read, and I was shocked to read how many people on Amazon wrote reviews praising it for its wisdom. I ended up writing a review on it (warning: don't click on it without a pop-up blocker). Since then, I have had very little respect for New Ageism, and I don't see how any intelligent person can take it seriously. I don't know if all New Agers are as nutty as Walsch (especially Chopra since I haven't read any of his books), but it'll be interesting to see Chopra interact with Koukl. Addressing relativism is Koukl's forte. I'm going to record it.

Sam: Already spoke to the co-worker, she's not going to be home this weekend so I'm taping it for her. She let a few other people at work who are Deepak fans (I wasn't aware that they were) know about it.

I've never heard of Conversations With God, I can't believe anyone even took that seriously. I've not read Chopra either, but from what I've gleaned from my co-worker, he's New Age-y with an emphasis on scientific theories that support his worldview.

I very much enjoyed reading your review, by the way. It was quite informative and it made me laugh a few times. "I don't think God or Satan was talking through Walsch, mostly because the book was too full of contradictions, and I would expect God or Satan to be a little more consistent." Ha ha! Especially funny since you seem to be quite a serious guy (expect when you're discussing Zero bars).
